Is Mentat good for curing Epilepsy this question feed

DT2000, 5 November 2015 23:10

My son is 19 years old and has been getting seizures since he was 15. These are simple partial seizures. He gets right hand jerks to his side and sometimes even saliva comes out. Now he also makes a sound with jerks.

He has been taking Tegretol now. We tried Tegretol combination with Frisium, Keppra, Trileptal but did not help.

We now want to try Ayrvedic products. We are in Middle East and do not get Divya Medha Wati or other products but get only Himalaya products.

Please let me know if Mentat or any other product can help. Thank you.

Doctor's Ayurvedic Advice:-

Epilepsy is caused due to a neurological deficit in the brain. Ayurvedic medicines can be supplemented along with the Allopathy medoications. Please continue with the regular medications and checkups. Mentat contains Brahmi, madukaprani and Aswagandha which will help to reduce the attacks. It has anti-cholinesterase, dopaminergic, neuroprotective, adaptogenic and antioxidant properties. It helps to improve the function of the brain with the thinking and memory.

Ghee has the potency to cross the blood brain barrier and hence can be taken for 3months and reviewed. So traditional Ayurvedic medicines like like Pancha gavya ghrit - 1tsp before food twice daily with milk after food can be taken for a month and reviewed. It can be purchased online or in Ayurvedic pharmacies.

Include olive oil, avocados, fiber, berries, pomegranates, green tea and complex carbohydrates. Reduce excess canned foods, oil, sugar and salt. Do not skip eating and try to eat small frequent meals during the day. Yogasnaas like trikonasana, padmasana, siddhasana, supported sarvangasana, halasana and balasana will be beneficial. Pranayamam, yoga nidra and meditation are mind strengthening practises that can be followed everyday.

Thank you Doctor for your advise. He took Mentat one tablet in morning and one in evening and we thought it is helping. But couple of times he got large attacks. So we stopped now.

We will try to give the food you have mentioned above. Hopefully that helps. Please let me know if you have any other advise. Thank you.
